Introducing our new Academy Awards qualifying initiative from the Dallas Film Commission.
Screen Dallas is a new program from the Dallas Film Commission that annually awards one feature length documentary with a fully sponsored, week-long theatrical release, offering them a powerful platform to qualify for the Academy Awards and connect with Dallas audiences.
The Dallas Film Commission has partnered with local festival programmers to select a feature-length documentary worthy of Academy recognition.
Any documentary that screens at a Dallas area festival will automatically be considered for the program. Submissions outside of local festivals will be opening soon.
The selected documentary film will receive a free theatrical rental for one week in a Dallas venue. This allows the documentary to meet the Academy requirements for a qualifying run.
Screen Dallas will provide the services of The Film Festival Doctor free of charge to the selected documentary. She will ensure the film's screening, marketing materials, and reporting align with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences eligibility guidelines for Best Documentary Feature. The program will host an exclusive premiere screening, featuring a red carpet entrance, media presence, and a post-screening Q&A with the filmmaker.
